Carol A. Burns

President & CEO

Carol Burns is a serial entrepreneur with extensive experience working in the cardiovascular sector. She has proven success in raising capital, recruiting high performance management teams and top scientific advisors. Ms. Burns has led product development, created worldwide product awareness and has achieved regulatory milestones in a high-quality, timely and capital efficient manner. Ms. Burns recently served as co-founder, President & CEO of Intact Vascular (Wayne, PA) and raised $17M in capital to develop the Tack Endovascular System, a Nitinol implant in a multi-loaded catheter for treatment of peripheral artery disease. Prior to Intact Vascular, she was the first employee of another peripheral vascular company, Embrella Cardiovascular. Ms. Burns served as the Vice President of Product and Business Development which developed a novel embolic protection device for use in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedures (acquired by Edwards Lifesciences). Ms. Burns also worked at Animas Corporation (acquired by Johnson and Johnson) as the Sr. Director of International Sales and Marketing. She served as the Managing Director, Europe at Ventrica, Inc. (acquired by Medtronic) and held various management positions at Guidant Corporation working in the cardiac and vascular surgery division where she played a key role in the launch of the first US marketed endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm device and endoscopic vessel harvesting product for coronary artery bypass surgery. Ms. Burns received her BSN degree from The College of New Jersey, in Ewing, New Jersey.

Robert Giasolli

Chief Technology Officer
VP of Research and Development

Robert Giasolli is a co-founder of Cagent Vascular serving as the Vice President of Research and Development and is the lead inventor of the Serranator Serration Balloon Catheter. Previously, Mr. Giasolli was a co-founder, inventor and VP of Research and Development of Intact Vascular. Robert was the chief designer for the Tack Endovascular System™. Mr. Giasolli has extensive experience in Intellectual Property strategy and claim development. Formerly, Mr. Giasolli served as a micro system technology executive with extensive experience in design and development of innovative devices. Mr. Giasolli has a strong scientific and business knowledge enabling quick and innovative approach to business development. He has served as a consultant for Smith & Nephew, TSMC, the US Army and Air Force, Sandia National Labs. He has built and outfitted two clean rooms and two metrology labs and has taught technicians and engineers proper use and control of the facilities. He has a BS in Physics from University of Texas at El Paso and an MS in Micro and Nano Manufacturing Systems Engineering from Louisiana Tech, Ruston, LA.

Peter Schneider, MD

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Schneider is a Board Certified Vascular Surgeon who currently practices at Kaiser Permanente Clinic in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Schneider is an early adopter of endovascular techniques and has authored multiple scientific publications and books including Endovascular Skills (third edition textbook on endovascular techniques used by fellows and practitioners), Critical Limb Ischemia and Carotid Interventions. Dr. Schneider is also a frequent invited guest lecturer at national and international conferences. He is the Co-Principal Investigator (PI) of Medtronic’s IN.Pact US drug coated balloon trial. He also served as the PI in a carotid stent trial sponsored by WL Gore. Dr. Schneider is an advisor to several start-up companies including Revascular, Silk Road and Pro-med and serves on the scientific advisory boards of Abbott Vascular, Cardinal Health and Medtronic. In addition to his clinical and academic experience Dr. Schneider is also an inventor. He has licensed vascular devices to Cook Medical (tibial sheath) and developed a marker catheter for carotid interventions which was licensed to Angiodynamics. Dr. Schneider is a co-founder, of Cagent Vascular and was also a co-founder for Intact Vascular.

Peter Johansson, PE

Chief Operations Officer

Peter Johansson has over 25 years of experience in the medical device industry with particular expertise in cardiovascular products. Peter also has extensive knowledge of and development experience with customized Quality Management Systems for medical devices.  Prior to joining the Cagent Vascular Team, from 2013 to 2015 Mr. Johansson served as COO for ProMed Corporation and pioneered a device for large vessel closure (VCD).  From 2010-2012, he served as VP of R&D for AngioScore where he specialized in the development of PTA and PTCA catheters for treating complex lesions.  Mr. Johansson served as VP of R&D for Guided Delivery Systems from 2007-2010 and led the development of a catheter-based mitral valve repair device.  Peter was an early engineer with EndoVascular Technologies (EVT), designing the first endovascular catheter based abdominal aortic aneurysm device which was sold to Guidant Corporation. Prior to starting his career in the medical device industry, Mr. Johansson was a member of the United States Air Force and California Air National Guard as a member of Rapid Engineering Deployment Teams.  Mr. Johansson is a licensed Professional Engineer, received his MBA from St. Mary’s College in California and BSME from the University of California, San Diego.
